Examinations

Texas Examinations: TExES; TOPT; PPR!

Before entering a Texas classroom, the State of Texas requires an individual challenge and pass the TExES content area examination  with a scaled score of 240 (usually translates to a score of 70%). Before an individual can apply for a standard certificate, s/he must challenge and pass with a scaled score of 240 (usually translates to a score of 70%), the pedagogy and professional responsibilities examination, TExES PPR.

EC-4 Generalist Examination: All TEACH candidates seeking a BIED, ESL, & SPED certificate, grade levels EC-4,  are required to challenge the EC-4 Generalist examination in addition to the specific certificate content area and PPR examinations.  Bilingual education certificate candidates are also required to challenge and pass the oral proficiency test  (TOPT).  TEACH suggests that candidates challenge the PPR  toward the end of the paid or non-paid internship.

TEACH candidates seeking a middle or high school certificate are not required to challenge the EC-4 Generalist examination in addition to the specific certificate content area and PPR examinations.

Certification Test(s)

bulletCandidates take the content (teaching area) test before entering Phase II, internship. Candidates must score at least 85% on TEACH  practice test before Director awards approval to challenge the TExES exam.
bulletCandidates take the TExES Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities Test (PPR) toward the end of the internship and the content area test has been passed.
bulletCandidates must score at least 85% on PPR practice test before Director awards approval to challenge the PPR.
bulletCandidates register for for each certification test online at www.texes.ets.org
bullet If an individual fails the TExES exam, individual may not re-take the exam for 90 days.

Barcodes: Candidates should request test approval approximately three-weeks prior to the test registration deadline. Tutoring is required!
